Hello I'm building a early 70s 429 for my 79 F250 that I'm in the process of restoring. The engine came with D0VE heads which I'm pretty sure will require premium fuel. I don't want to run premium because it's not available in my town (I know right?). Anyways what would be my options for running a Aluminum head with a slightly larger combustion chamber. The engine will have stock type rebuilder dished pistons, a Edelbrock performer rpm intake manifold, straight up timing set and fairly mild cam. It's going into a truck so I don't need crazy HP just reliable torque for pulling and daily driving. Also they need to have the stock exhaust port location. Would the Edelbrock performer RPMs be a good match for this or are there better options? Any feed back would be appreciated.
for what you are looking for the Edelbrocks are probably a decent choice for what you want. you can get a top end kit from edelbrock that includes the heads, intake and matched cam. you aren't going to make the big number hp with the Edelbrocks compared to other heads on the market, but that is not what you are after.
another option is maybe look at the AFR heads. they have a smaller flow head (think they are the 290 model) that might be also what you are looking for as far as a torque monster. one thing you might want to wait for is to pick the heads that you want then the pistons to get the CR you want and the proper valve reliefs. some of the aftermarket heads have revised valve angles that require special reliefs in the pistons. Don't think Edelbrocks need this but the AFR heads might.

Perfect thank you for the response. Just gotta save my penny's now. Lol.
Another option is go for a 1979 ornewer 460, these had taller deck so you will end up with less compression, probably enough to run regular fuel. and run your dove heads.

I built a strong 460 in mid 80's used later 92cc chamber heads and popup pistons with the popup machined off 9.2 compression with 204-214 cam this engine had good torque and fuel economy on regular unleaded 85 in Utah this could be cheaper than edelbrock heads exhaust has strange bump in it just grind that out not rocket science.

Ya I'm actually looking at maybe selling the D0VE heads and finding some D3s. Sounds like some mild porting and I'm in business. Thanks.
My engine is a ‘77 460. In reality I’m lucky if the motor is at 8-1 compression. I think they came in just under 8. I’m actually looking for a set of Dove or C8V heads. Rework them and install them on my engine. It won’t raise my compression enough for the need for premium fuel.
Edelbrock heads are o.k. But if I’m going aluminum I’d look at the Trickflow heads first. There is a lot of info on the 460 forum. I’d look there for advice also.
Do some more saving and buy a good set of pistons after you decide on a comp. ratio and how you intend to get there. The problem with builder pistons is they end up too far in the hole at tdc, figure as much as .040" and that big dish wont do you any favors either.
