I'm a new owner of a 96 Bronco, and I'm having some strange electrical issues. So, when I hit my brake pedal, the brake lights come on, but so do the dash lights. Also, if I hold my brake pedal down, I can adjust the brightness of my brake lights with the headlight switch dimer function.... Any ideas at all??? I've replaced my brakelight switch, my headlight switch, and my turn signal column switch... Any help would be most appreciated. It is kinda kewl to be able to adjust my brake lights with a dimmer, but I think I should get this fixed.
My first thought is that the ground for the brake light is not there. To explain, when the positive voltage passes through the filament for the brake light, it is looking for a path to the negative side of the battery. If the ground is open, it will then find the path to the negative side of the battery through the tail light filament. This path also includes all of the other filaments in the tail light circuit including the dash lights.
I don't have a wiring diagram to tell you where to look for the ground point for the brake lights. I hope one of the others can jump in to help out.
What engine does your Bronco have and is the headlight in the on/off position when this occurs.Provide as many specifics and I am curious to why your replaced all 3 switches. If its not a ground (that's common) could you of possibly miswired a switch (headlight)when changing one out? TR
make sure the brake lights are the right ones and in the sockets right. had a jiffy lube change a light one time on the wife's car and they put in the wrong bulb. it did just what you said.
