crankshaft wire cut and missing

Ive been helping a buddy of mine with his 94 F-150 4x4 auto with the 351windsor. We soon found out that it was not firing. Come to find out someone had cut the wire coming of the crankshaft sensor. Its been cut about half way up the front of the engine and the rest of the wire is gone. We've looked through all the wiring harnesses and cant find any loose wires. I was wondering if anyone would have diagram or pics that would show how the crankshaft sensor wire ran and where it went into the harness. Everything that ive found online does not show me enough info on that wire.

There is no external crankshaft position sensor on this vintage truck. The distributor has an internal stator (aka PIP) that provides that information to the computer.

If the engine in the truck has any type of external sensor with a tone ring on the harmonic balancer it came from a 1996 model year truck. But, it's not really a crankshaft position sensor either. It's a mis-fire sensor. Your EEC-IV computer has no input for that type signal.

My point was that wire has nothing to do with it if indeed the engine in the truck now has that mis-fire detector. To be sure we are on the same page a photo of this mystery wire would be helpful.

The last Ford trucks to use the crankshaft position sensor was in the early 1980's. That was used with the EEC-III Ignition system. But the late 1980's and some 1990's trucks still keep the hole by the crankshaft that held the sensor for the EEC-III system.

The statement above is correct in post #2 by Randy.

If it's a single wire in a corrugated cover, I bet it's the oil pressure wire.

Longest single wire near the front of engine.

Can you post a pic? I'm thinking the same. If it is a crank sensor it is probably not original to the truck and not needed.
