Do you guys cold start while injectors are buzzing?

So over the years I've had a few different routines for cold start: I've always waited for the GP light to go out; then for years I waited until everything went silent; then on here there was discussion about not letting the fuel pump time out, so start it before that.

Well I realize now that I'm cranking it over while the injectors are still going through their buzz...

Does it matter? Do you guys wait for them to stop? Is my motor about to grenade because of what I've done to it?!

There is likely more than one of you shaking their head right now...

Thanks,
Scott

I wait about 10 seconds (maybe not even that) and crank. Have for years. Of course it just isn't very cold here!

my remote start goes off the GPL.. when it goes out it engages the starter.. on a rare occasion it sometimes will glitch and start cranking immediately.. takes forever for it to kick over when that happens.. but its really rare when it will do that.. but off the remote start it usually first up after a second or 2 of cranking..

I just wait for the GP light to go out. Is there some detriment if it hasn't finished buzzing?

Heck, it's probably better for the injectors -- maybe it is the buzzing that kills them, and the FICM...

I think I'll just go get a 6.7 and start peeing in the little tank -- that's what it's for, right?!

OK - Thanks guys - I don't have to give my wife another new start procedure And thank goodness for that!

I don't think I'd make a practice of defeating the GPCM with a double heat -- someone on here, who likely will reply, had a GP tip destroy his motor... At least that is how I recall it...

It never is that cold here - ok let me modify that: we'd be driving one of several other vehicles before it'd be the 6.0 if it WAS that cold here...!

it was another 6.0 guru that told me about double cycling when it was cold..

the last time i did the double cycle though was before i rebuilt the engine... while i never had any GP codes whenever it got near 40* it just sounded pissed off trying to get it to start... either my harness was bad or the glow plugs were dont know which.. but the colder it got the harder it was to crank it over.. well not so much cranking but getting it to fire up is more the proper term.. it would just billow white smoke for 10 seconds after start up.. cycle the plugs 2-3 times and cranked right over... would still smoke but when you get to single digits its nice not to have a cranky diesel...

since replacing both the harness and plugs when i rebuilt the engine doesnt puff smoke and cranks right over just using the remote start even in the single digits...

Been playing with things.
I wait till all quiet on a cold start or a 30 count after the light goes out.
Seems to start a bit faster that way.

Fuel pressure is already primed and as soon as you turn the key the pump
would be back on anyway even if there is a tiny off period between starter
and run. You would get than how ever you did it.

The second part that makes the biggest difference is glow plug heat time.
You will build up more heat in the metal around the plug. Also don't forget
that the plug stays on even after your started for up to 120 sec.

Jack: mine sounds nothing like that at all. The buzzing under the hood goes on for a long time. I'm not sure how to do a video to Youtube, but I can maybe at least take one on my phone so I can tell you how long it lasts...
