I feel like BLIS was a waste of my money. By the time the indicator comes on, you could wipe out the car's headlights with your rear bumper; WAY too close. And it doesn't work with a fifth wheel. It's no good to me.
In my case, yes... without it it would be a bit too much. Just solder it in-line on one LED pigtail, and either shrink tube it, or tape it... you can go with a 4.7K resistor if you want to dim it a tad more...

The cross-traffic alert is worthwhile though.
I may be late the party on this, as I often am, but...
I struggled with mirror adjustment for the first 2-3k miles on my truck. The non-convex mirrors are narrow and tall...more of "portait" shaped than "landscape" shaped, and the sit farther outboard....seems to really be a departure from any other mirror on any car/truck that i have recently driven. I had used the method that I was taught some 20 or so years ago: adjust the mirrors so that you can barely see the side of your vehicle....which is far less than optimal, and I found my self using the the blind spot mirrors exclusively, which is no fun.
I used the method in the link below, but rather than leaning left to right to get the base adjustments, I went out on a four lane road and slightly dropped my speed encouraging the car following me to pass, and adjusted my mirrors so that I got a good "hand off" from my rear view to my side view. I repeated it in the right and left lanes. Since I have done that, I never lose a car in my blind spot. If you will recall, I was the one who posted the aftermarket alternative to @Precisionair's hack. Even though I think that is where the BS indicator should be from the factory, now that I have my mirrors properly adjusted, I am not sure on the ROI of adding the inboard indicators.
I have been playing with using a 11mm amber bolt using a dark window tint to diffuse the light and make it look black when off. Once my truck arrives I will post pics.
Hey, fairly new member here and just wanted to say thank you @Precisionair for this thread! I too had trouble seeing the BLIS indicators as well on my 2021 XLT, especially when extended in tow mode.
This was a great and easy mod! Maybe 10 minutes a side! I cheated and used t-taps but the wiring was spot on and this write up was super easy to follow!
Got two small LEDs from amazon, drill & install to the mirror covers, wire the two wires to pin 13 & 20 just like he wrote and done! I bought amber lights to match the existing BLIS indicator and was going to add a resistor but tried it out and they don't seem overly bright to me so I'm just going to leave it!
