Oil filter adapter insert

The insert that threads into the block to allow the oil filter to screw on to the block. Looking for replacement Insert for my Ford 400 refresh.

Ive seen some online that are listed as fitting:

1) 460/429 AND 351C/351M + 400 motors
others say...
2) All 302/351W and 351C/351M/400 motors

but nothing I've come across says it fits all the motors listed, so which is it?

Im tempted to order from Tim, but I'll get raked over the coals in shipping charges (not Tim's fault... just how it is).

any advice?

Answered by Number Dummy in another thread.

See below. Threaded oil filter adapter / oil filter bung / oil filter insert (goes by many names on the interwebs) is Part Number: F1TZ-6890-B

Block-side threads are: 1-1/16" - 12 TPI
Filter-side threads are: 3/4" - 16 TPI

Lots of bad info out on the internet, so I thought I'd turn to you.

Looking for F1AZ-6890-B (Oil Filter Adapter Insert/Bung), but the correct one for my 1979 F250 400.

I noticed in an old post, you mentioned:

The absolute WORST part of this job is that Ford updates 10's of 1000's of part numbers every year. Tryin' to keep track of all this scheiss was a royal PITA!

F1AZ6890B replaced: D7AZ6890B, D7AZ6890A, D1AZ6890A & C2OZ6890A .. Insert / 3/4" -16 & 1 1/16" -12 male threads / 1 13/64" long / shoulder type insert to attach filter to cyl. block.

Fits: 1968/79 429/460 (except 429 CJ & S/CJ) / 1980 and later 460 is NOT the same / 1962/65 221/260 / 1963/68 289 / 1968/96 302 / 1970/74 351C/400 / 1975/82 351M/400 / 1969/96 351W.

F1AZ6890B is available from your local Ford Dealer / MSRP: $9.82 // FTE sponsor: y2kfordparts.com price: $5.06.

If you tell me what city you are in, I can tell you the closest dealer to you that has it.

What makes the 460/429 and the 351M/351C/400 Motor bungs different than the other blocks?

From everything I can see on my end, the threads are the same on either end (1-1/16"-12 x 3/4"-16) for all applications.

So what makes a 460 oil filter insert different from a 351W insert?

Just trying to understand why there's so many part numbers floating around and why the heck I can't find the correct one for my motor.. lol
351M/400 > 1977: D1AZ-6890-A / 1978/82: D7AZ-6890-A / Both of the part numbers were replaced in 1991 with F1TZ-6890-B

The reason there are so many part numbers for the same part is, FoMoCo updates/replaces part numbers almost as often as women change their minds!

The original part numbers:

D1AZ-6890-A = MCDONALD OBSOLETE PARTS in Rockport IN has 1 = 812-359-4965.

D7AZ-6890-A = MUSTANG SERVICE CENTER in North Hollywood CA has 1 = 818-765-9266.
