It doesn't look bad, but I had the same thought as you when I noticed it.

 

Yeah, looking at it again you can probably see the head reasonably well.
I was thinking about how mine are, which are just a tad higher than that one (as you can see in my pic above) and I wished I'd gone to the trouble or raising them up as high as they'd go because of the wide-angle mirrors I have mounted beneath the main head.
I can hardly even see the one on the passenger side. Luckily though for the truck I decided to buy the set with the wider angle ("...items appear smaller...") right hand mirror. I didn't think I'd like them so got the regular ones for the Bronco in black. But they only had the wide angle version in the stainless and I'm glad they did! Love those things now and would not do it any other way in the future.

Funny, I kept an eye out for where the mirror was mounted on trucks I saw on Craiglist since reading this thread.
I had not thought to look at the mirrors on the truck I recently bought that has had a drop cloths over most of it.
Was in the garage last night and realized that both the original doors of the truck, and the replacement doors that the previous owner obtained, have the bottom bracket in the dent.
However, the mirror and hardware look similar to 79time's data listing image, bottom left mirror, yet mine look larger.
I was looking at the mirrors on both sets of doors and it looks like even if I wanted to redrill holes and mount high up on the door, even at the highest position the bottom mounts would still be in the dent channel, on the high side, currently on the low side.
The truck I bought has a salvage title and the "original" doors are likely replacements gotten in the mid 1990s.
This makes me think that the mirrors that the four doors I have are from some other era, 1980s?

Anyone got a link to a picture of the Delbar ? that I can compare mine with?
When I bought the truck, I remember thinking and still do think, the mirror hardware look exactly like what my 1991 F-150 XL had.
I'm okay with what I got, still looks nice, but would like to know what I got.

 

Spotted an even larger folding mirror.
The mounting brackets look larger than I've seen before.
The top bracket is at the top of the door below the window, and the bottom bracket below the dent.
