Question About Mirrors

I have a '79 Bronco Custom. I recently found out, thanks to Bill, that Customs did not come with the side molding standard. I always assumed someone filled in the holes when they repainted the truck. I pulled the door panel and found there were never holes for molding. Awesome, good to know. but my question is about my side view mirrors, the bottom bolts are in the molding channel. I've never seen mirrors mounted in the dent before, always right above the dent. There were no holes in the door above the mirror. So, has anyone seen these mirrors mounted this way before?

1973/79 F100/350: There were SEVEN different types of TYPE 9 Low Mount "Swing-Lock" Mirrors.

Since the dealers installed all the outside mirrors, 1978/79 Bronco's could have any one of these types.

I've seen them mounted like that before, but I don't know if it's correct (since the dealers were responsible for installing the mirrors, anything is possible).

It looks to me that 79time's data listing image, the upper left mirror is what you have,
and that comparing your mirror to that one in the data listing, your's is mounted too low causing the lower hanger to be in the dent

in the data listing image, you can see the side trim forces the mirror to be mounted higher

What about the mirror on your passenger door, is it mounted the same way?

It seems to me that most-assuredly yours are not mounted correctly, as the end "Arm" at the lower bracket is contacting the paint.

If the passenger mirror is mounted the same way, no need to fret.
It looks good regardless.

Looks like a case of "re- engineering". The pic in the upper left in the listing shows the arm at an upward angle from the door. Pic in post #1 ,the arm is straight out from the door, moving the lower mounting bracket down into the channel.

Yes, those are the Delbar brand of mirrors, and yes the customs did not automatically come with trim. The picture shows how mine are mounted too.
Although, it looks to me like the installer of yours went to the extra effort to spread the hoop so they could be mounted higher up on the door and the lower mount would still fit into the dent. Nice.

Also used the same model in black, but painted Peacock Blue and Wimbledon White to match the paint on the Bronco.

Interesting. Is that a Ford brochure, or something else?
Notice that the Swing-Lock mirrors in the upper left are in fact the same Delbar style as ours. Same mounting feet and arm shape that put the upper bar at an angle, instead of being level like the factory Ford mirrors were.
The actual Ford type-9 Swing-Lock mirrors have different mounting feet and are obviously shaped for the trucks. With the Delbars right out of the box you have to tweak the arms for a better fit. And even more if you have the trim and can't mount the lower foot inside the dent like in the brochure's pic.
Interesting.

IMO those are a bit newer Ford truck (80's ish) mirrors put on a dentside and NO that is not where they are suppose to be (in the dent) if they were actual 73-79 Type 9's. If they work and match, then let it go or get 73-79 type 9's and get to dril 2 more holes.

In that low position you have to be sittin' pretty tall in the saddle to make much use of the passenger side mirror I would think.
