If I were to step outside of jailbar mode, I think I'd go for the 52 ford/merc 'f3' with what looks like 7.50 17s all around. I had a 51 f3 for a while and I loved it. To the right of my son is the 8rt ready to go back in after my first flathead V8 rebuild. That kid still helps me with wrenching in the tight spots. At 23 his hands contort better than mine do these days. When you have four kids, it's best not to encourage ALL of them to go off to college (and move away to the city). Gotta save a helper for old Dad.
I sold a '52 F-3 to a father and son team from North Carolina. They drove out in a 1995 Ford Explorer 2dr that was pulling a car trailer. They took turns driving and sleeping all the way. I drove the pickup up onto the trailer and they hit the road. I wondered how they would make it over the mountains.

Two things, I bet they had a great time, one they will always remember. Other thing, I bet they went real slow going over the mountains. OK, 3 things. I bet they had some close calls with that light duty, short wheelbase exploder. Holy Cow!
I'll bet it was a fun time for them. The father was a retired Consolidated Freightways truck driver, or CF. I said "so you were a corn flaker". That was their cb nickname. He said "yes". These guys were no goof ***** and were out on an adventure. They probably still talk about it.

Showed this to my friend, he recently retired from driving over the road after about 65 years and countless miles. Started in the Chicago stock yards back in the day. Misses it but his health is a mess so he reminisces mostly now days. He has lots of photos from over the years and a book of them from the AHTS. i show him some photos from this site every now and then. Thanks for sharing guys.
Come on, somebody here must need a 40 tonner panel?
I wish I could! I love that body and a panel to boot. But - you're too far away and no way I could take on that project right now. I'm trying to clear out some of my Ford parts now and get rid of a couple of 80s trucks (not to mention a parts AMC wagon), and maybe thin down some of my motorcycles. In a year or so, maybe.
And that tonner panel Mike showed is in his last photo is the same color as mine and same vintage, but SOOO much nicer than mine. Try to find big panel rear fenders like that.... WB, put yours on the web. We are already known addicts and we know too much. Seriously, your's is a really nice rig. It will sell.

Wouldn't be much sleeping if I was riding shotgun in that Exloder!!
