Cooper ST Maxx vs A/T3

Debating between the Cooper ST Maxx vs A/T3. Currently in Denver area but headed back to FL later this year. I like the way the ST Maxx looks and I was told it will handle the snow better than the A/T3. But once back in FL, seems like the A/T3 would make more sense.

Has anyone regretted the Maxx due to noise, handling, etc. and wished they had gone with the A/T3?

In the past I have typically ran all terrains (the last few years, it was the Toyo AT2's). Wanted to try Cooper this time around. Maxx seems to be in between a true all terrain and mud tire. Seems like it could be a good all around tire.

Any feedback on the two would be appreciated.

Maxx wastes the At/3 everywhere. I don't know if my dealer even bothers ordering the At/3's anymore. I got stuck in Ocala National Forest with BFG AT KO's, so a hybrid or mud tire is still nice to have, even in FL.

Also check out the Mastercraft CXT's and Mickey Thompson ATZ's. In the past, Mickey was Coopers west coast version of themselves. Often harder rubber. That might be a good thing to look into for FL.

The Maxx requires 5000 mile cross rotations. Don't miss one if you don't like tire noise. The Maxx is also on the STT carcass. So you have all the strength of a MT, so go ahead and air them down to 25 for the beach.

I've got the AT3 on my '71 now and they are great tires. I've run Cooper's for a long time and never had any problems. I haven't run the S/T Maxx yet but that will be replacing the Wranglers on my '17 when they wear out. They hold up really well on these heavy trucks.
The AT3 is still a very good tire and I've been pretty impressed by them in mud and snow.

I’m a big fan of the AT3’s on a truck. Great traction and road manners!

Not sure it matters, but I am looking at 295/70r18 on my 18x8 stock rims and stock height. While I typically lift my truck and do 35's on a wider rim, I don't have time to deal with it right now. So I am going to settle for just going one size up and leaving it at that for awhile.

Luckily these new trucks sit a lot higher with an open wheel well compared to the older models. Even stock, they look good.

Also check the A/TW - it's a Snowflake-rated version of the A/T3 with a more open tread pattern.

Had a set of ST Maxx’s On an f150. Lasted almost 50k. Very tough tire designed for the outback. They held up great against sidewalk punctures from sharp rocks

I just retired a set of ST MAX that I ran down to about 50-60% tread. I thought these tires looked great but was disappointed in their performance. The truck was a 2012 F250 with the gas motor and the tires were 35x1250x17 on 9" rims. The tires were noisier than I expected and they "wandered" on irregular road surfaces. I had the truck aligned and the tires installed at the same time. I took the truck back back because it drove so poorly, asking the shop to double check the alignment. It checked out ok so I learned to live with the wandering. Winter came and I changed out to my winter rims and tires. The truck suddenly drove perfectly again! I will replace the STs this spring. This was the only set of STs I have run but I wasn't impressed.

Based on what we know in your post my opinion would be to go AT/3. That tire brand new with 16/32's of tread depth should handle anything Denver will throw at you no problem.

Then when you get to Florida you will have a more balanced tire for all conditions you will face there and it should be quieter and more comfortable over the life of the tire compared to the ST Maxx.

I echo this response. I have been around both tires and they are 2 of my favorite 3 out there. I currently run the AT3 and love them. I have run them over my PNW winter passes with no problems at all.
