Hi guys, this is only my second post.
on my first I had just purchased a 2012 f250.
well.... it was just killing my kidneys and my wallet as it was a 6.2l
I recently picked up a 16 f150. Seems like a better pick for me. One thing I really liked about the 250 was the rear locker. My new one doesnt have that.
I want to install the Detroit tru Trac. Im having trouble figuring out how many splines my axle is.
the build sheet says it's an 8.8" is that 28 splines or 31?
but I read if it has 12 bolts it's 9.75? 34 splines?
I'm confused!
can any one help?
The axle you have is a 12 bolt 8.8 HD rear which was introduced in 2015. The parts are not interchangeable with the 8.8 or 9.75. As of now I don't think there is much of an aftermarket for these axles. Honestly you can get a complete pull out axle with the locker for under 1k. Thats the route I went, no gears to set up and everything was plug and play and just programming the truck with Forscan to enable the ELD.

Thanks for the reply. I've been racking my brain trying to figure this out!
man, I almost hate to do that with only 24000 miles on the rear. I'm assuming I'd be going to the junk yard to pick one up. Thanks again.
wow, I've called 3 junkyards. None around my area, Bedford PA has one they said between 14-1700 bucks!
Man, I would have thought by now there would be an aftermarket carrier that would work. So far everyone I've called is a no go.

Looks like that's the route I'm going to have to go replacing the whole assembly.
so I'm guessing I would just replace the 4x4 switch in the cab.
you said everything was plug and play. The wiring for the ELD is already there at the Rear?
I'm not familier with the forscan. Will I need to go to Ford and get it programmed?
how much do you think you have in the whole project? Sorry for all the questions, I'm out of my realm with rear ends and programming.
