It's a involved process. I just did a google search on "Ford 8.8 rebuild" and a lot of hits came up, including you tube videos. This the rearend that the mustang guys mess with, so there is a lot of info out there.

Once the 8.8's inspection cover (4036) is removed and the axles are pulled, most of the parts come out thru the back of the rear end.
Notice 4241, this is the locking pin...it has a nasty habit of shearing its head off. Getting the remains of the pin out of the 4221 shaft, can be a study in futility.
You will also have to replace the 4662 crush sleeve and the pinion seal (4676) which is accessed at the front of the rear end...once the 4851 companion flange is removed.
I suggest if you're going to make the repairs yourself, get a shop manual, because you will need it.
