Oil Change Prices

I'll get a lot of bad feedback for this, but here it is..
6.7L Oil Change at WalMart.. Don't scream or laugh yet....
I purchase a Motorcraft (Best for 6.7L Engines) oil filter and Motorcraft (Best for 6.7L Engines) oil in the store and take it to the counter.

Motorcraft oil has engineered and designed additives just for the 6.7L engine.

I ask to have the oil filter and oil changed and have them add in writing only on the ticket, Do Not touch, look or add any other liquids.. Yep, Don't touch, check or add anything except the oil filter and oil.

I stand outside the bay (as required) but watch closely.

Total cost (out-the-door): 6.7L Diesel Motorcraft only diesel oil filter, Motorcraft only oil and replacement fee... $79.00

Do watch (eagle eye)... Ask questions if you need too. Make sure they use the filter and oil you provided.

I've been doing this on various trucks for 15 years at different locations and in different states. I never let them touch anything else.

Be careful about local garage specials around town since they may put recycled oil in your motor.

Yep.... Some Local garages -> Recycled bulk oil.... Of course they won't tell you..

Where I get mine done it’s 45.00
And I let them touch everything else, they grease, top off wiper fluid, radiator, check power steering fluid.
they use wix filters and Mobil oil.

we live in a small town and it’s 3 ladies who own the lube station...
been letting them do both my autos for years.....

have you ever considered to find a friendly "shade tree' mechanic...

ask your local town people.. someone THEY TRUST...

take him your oil and filter.. take a lawn chair.. an wait...

I would never use Wally world.. or a quickly place..
my little town I live in.. after our street department and police... with oil spills on the streets.. they are now Fined. for every spill on the street..

YES, I do my own.. 50 plus years... and for a few friends and neighbors
I have not been a shade tree mechanic for almost 50 years

I live in an RV park who frowns on RV'ers DIY oil changes in the park.

I like the $45.00 oil change...I think the filter and oil is that much...

You should own an airplane...any time there is an oil or fuel spill, you cant just clean it up. The HASMAT people are called in. It runs into the thousands

I use walmart on my daily driver focus. They can touch anything they want. I really don't care about that thing.

They don't touch my truck, only I touch my truck.

I buy the oil, (Mobil 1 Extended Performance) and filter (Napa Gold) and have a local shop do the wife's G8 GT since the thing sits so low. Costs me $20.

I do my truck.

I have my dealer do it and it costs $80. I change everything else myself(gassers), but for this truck, the dealer gets it so it's on record if I ever have problems down the road. I had planned to initially do it myself but I don't have a 40 gal drain pan...so off it went.

If I buy the oil and take it to my mechanic he only charges me about $10.00 to change it and top off the fluids. During the winter months that is the route I go.

If I change it myself then I am only out materials which were roughly $23.00 or so last time I did it. That is using all Motorcraft.

I have never had the dealer do it, but I would imagine it would cost the same as my wife's edge, which holds 5.5 quarts, and that was about $46.00.

My truck is gas 5.4

Walmart is the place I buy most of my oil and other automotive chemicals, but I never let them or anyone else change my oil.

Walmart by me sucks old oil outy, doesn't get it all. Eagle eyed 'em the whole time. Have a friend at Ford dealer ship so I just take my own oil and filter to them and pay the labor. I use the upgrade Mobil 1 filter instead of the Motorcraft with full synthetic oil.

The last place I would get a oil change is Wal Mart. It was bad enough with Jiffy Lube years ago when I brought a '99 Suburban in for a oil change since I did not have enough time to do it before taking a trip. When they presented the bill they charged me for 4 grease zerks being greased. I asked why they didn't grease the rest and they claimed that's all there is on a Suburban. I had them pull it back on the pit and we went under and I showed them ball joint zerks that the manager claimed the truck didn't have. When I askd why the idler and pitman arms weren't greased I had to show the guy what they were. He looked at me and said that he isn't a mechanic, he is a lube specialist. At that point I was angry and asked WTF he was working on my truck. I stayed under it until they greased every zerk I pointed out to them. FWIW if no one is familiar with those GM put a swing down panel in the front to get to those idler and pitman grease zerks. This guy had no clue.

I never went back and never will. It either goes to Ford or I personally do it myself with me doing it the preferred way. Unless you take it to a owner owned garage or a dealership you can't be sure the people working on your vehicle are even remotely qualified.

over the years. I have ran into several places where kids are working, with out knowing anything about what they are dong.
today. Before I take my autos anywhere I ask to look at the shop, talk to the employees, its kind of an interview.
I ask for there policy on issues and I READ IT.

Today’s standards is, AT YOUR OWN RISK. Most “Policys” are to protect the business and its against the customer.
it really upsets places when I do this. The last place was discount tire. I found many things in their “agreement” it was so small, They couldn’t see it, and the shame was. They didn’t know what it said.
while I was doing this, many customers were looking at me. Some shaking there heads. While others were curious.
There Extended Tire service, was nothing but trash. It covers NOTHING that the manufacturer covers.
Extended service protection plan=MONEY for them.

I guess I had to vent a little.....

But now Discount tire, hates me, they had to call the district Manager 3 times to have there plan explained to them and me.
one of the kids, overhearing the policy, even Sid WOW that doesn’t sound good...” I think he got fired”

Auto stores that have kids and women behind the counter, I have learned to RUN LIKE HELL, from these places....

best of luck!
