I meant to share these photos from last year when I had my overheat issue. That junk is gasket material from the thermostat. The thermostat was bare when I took it out. The diesel in the coolant broke down the gasket material and plugged up the oil cooler causing the oil to overheat and thus the engine to overheat when working hard like pulling hills and towing.
afonda, no it would not be good to the injectors. I know that Anthony at SD Service uses diesel fuel to flush out the system when there is diesel or oil in the coolant, I can't imagine him leaving it in for very long, and then how to dispose of it........
Also Dieseltechron RIP has a video of how he cleans out a contaminated system
It is unfortunate that Ford doesn't have an extended mileage maintenance schedule in the manuals. Replacing injector o-rings and oil cooler o-rings would probably be on that list at about 200K miles/? years and rebuilding the fuel bowl. Oh, why not just do all the o-rings at 200K?
