4x4 noise
I have a 1996 f150 xlt 4x4. So I just had my transmission rebuilt. And when I got the truck back I wanted to check and make sure my 4 wheel was working. When I put the truck in 4 wheel high and accelerate quickly I sometimes hear a scrapping or grinding noise coming from the front passenger side of the truck. Keep in mind I have manual warn locking hubs. But when I put it low range it doesn't do it. And it also doesn't do it all of the time. My 4 wheel is working though because if I gun it I'll spin the tires in the mud.

The u-joint on the drive shaft? Or the bearing that's in between the two halves of the ttb?

To test hubs
1)lock right hub
2)turn front drive shaft by hand until it stops turning. if it don't stop, right hub is bad
3)Unlock right hub, turn drive shaft till free
4)lock left hub
5) turn front drive shaft until it locks. if it don't lock hub is bad
6) unlock hub
Hubs make an ungodly noise when they aren't locked all the way. Plastic eating itself up is hard on the ears
Skip is right about the axle bearing in the long axle ,look for oil running out of the seal there where the axle comes out for a tell tale sign too
