4x4 Crunch noise
i have a 1987 ford f-150 4x4. when i lock the hubs i hear a loud crunching noise. but not unless i am goin slow, or turning. sometimes it jerks as well. i dont use it often. The four wheel drive does work, as i have used it to get unstuck in crazy situations. The previous owner told me the problem but i have been unable to reach him. (he gave to junkyard, and i purchased from the yard) Thanks for your help!

Sounds like a bad U-joint(s) up front if it's only while turning. If it makes the sound going straight as well, could be the shaft bearings. The jerking, does this happen only when you are turning? This is normal if you are making a sharp turn in 4 wheel and you are on a hard surface. You shouldn't use your 4 wheel drive on dry pavement.
