So my driver side window (2000 Limited) has always had an odd sound when lowering...as if a wire cable was under tension. Never thought much of it since the window seemed to lower and raise just fine.
This winter, the window is VERY slow when lowering, and now stops maybe 3" before hitting bottom (when you use the "Auto" lower feature). If you hold the switch down, it works but very slow.
So I did a search of the forum and didn't find specifics to my year. 1AAuto has a video for replacing the motor, but that is a gear driven assembly.
I haven't pulled the door panel to see if it's really a wire system or gear...has anyone had this issue? Trying to see if I should order just the motor, or the entire assembly.
Mine has done this since the day I got it. No noise from the window though. I just stops a little past halfway down. If I press and hold the switch down, it will come all the way down. This happens more on cold days. In Summer, 8/10 times, it will work normally.

Do you know if 2000 models were somehow cable driven? The sound I'm hearing sounds as if a cable under tension was being rolled over a pulley...the sound gets higher pitch as the window rolls down, then lower in pitch as it rolls back up. I'll take a quick video so you can hear it and post it in another post here shortly.
My down motion is also affected by cold...on a "really cold" morning in Sacramento (30s - I'm from PA so back home that's a balmy "better wear a long sleeve shirt" day) it will stop maybe 2/3rds of the way down. On a warmer morning (40's - 50's) it will go all but maybe the last inch or two. In summer I never noticed an issue other than slower down than up.
I would have thought with gravity helping the lower would be faster than the raising. The 1AAuto video is titled that it's for a 1999+ F250, and it's a gear/lever system (I thought from the B pillar forward the body was basically the same on these models).
We are in the middle of rain every few days and with my schedule I can't get to it after work (too tall to fit in my garage)...just wondering if maybe our models had a different system to raise/lower?

I am not aware of how the system works on this. I haven't had the chance to perform surgery yet.
My 2001 makes a similar noise when going down, milder though. The guy I bought the truck from added dynamat to the inner door skin, and to the outer door skin that touches the door panel. Messy to work with once it's on, so I'm not investigating any time soon.
silicone grease on the roller assemblies/tracks seems to help, it is probably just binding. when I did all my lock assemblies i greased up the window regulator tracks
There are no cables in there. It is a "scissor" system for the window regulator. You likely have a build up of dirt/grease combo in the tracks OR you have an electrical wire getting snagged by the scissor assembly. The window regulator is not hard to replace at all. Very simple in my opinion. I would grab a new window regulator and slap it in there, then attach your current motor to it and keep on trucking.
Something else to watch out for while disassembling is dirt in the window glass guides on the sides, and dirt along the top seal (where the glass disappears while it goes down). 18-19 years of dirt buildup has to be dealt with...
It’s just the tension spring on the regulator transferring vibration to a worn out gear/motor making the noise.
Solution is new regulator. I doubt grease will fully fix the noise.
Make sure when you remove the regulator, that the glass slides freely in the window track by hand. The lower glass-run (rearmost) track needs to be fully seated at the joint to the upper track. You can dislodge the track when replacing other door components and not know that you did and it will cause the glass to bind and destroy your new regulator.
Also be careful that you do not slap the regulator in there, it has to slide in at the right angle and not be forced as you can dent the door skin!!

Mine has been that way since I bought it back in '04. I've sprayed silicone lube on the guides the window slides on and it's helped, but it's always been temporary.
Mine was perfect until a smash ad grab in 2007. The replacement window has always moaned like that. Works fine, despite oodles of various lubricants, still moans woefully.
