Hi. Am looking at buying a '92 Explorer from a good friend, but says the front u-joint needs to be replaced before using the 4X4 feature. Is this a major cost/repair.... or is possible to do it myself with basic tools? Should rear be done while I'm at it? Any tips/tricks would be appreciated.
He also mentioned that the engine raced for a second or two once placed in 'park', but then dropped to normal. Is this major? Can it be repaired/corrected?... or is it something inherent to these vehicles? I've never owned a Ford, let alone a 4X4, let alone something this new. (been driving a full size '75 Chev 3+3 for too many years and will retire it this week)
Thank you. Gabe.
WHAT I WOULD DO IS HAVE A QUALIFIED MECHANIC GO OVER THE TRUCK THERE IS TO MANY VARIABLES I HAVE A 92 AND HAVE HAD A LOT OF LITTLE PROBLEMS NOTHING MAJOR.....YET AND WITH THIS PARTICULAR TRUCK IT HAS SO MANY HIDDEN POSSIBLE PROBS......DOING THIS WOULD PROBABLY PRESERVE YOUR FRIENDSHIP
