Temp gauge

Ive got a ‘92 5.0 - is it possible to replace the temp sending unitl for the stock gauge with an analog gauge? My temp gauge is vague at best and id like to install a basic, numbered coolant temp gauge as a replacement. From what ive read it seems like the ecu gets its info from another sensor...not the same as the gauge.

The PCM uses the sensor at the TStat housing and your gauge use the one to the right of distributor
