My transmission temp gauge in my 2002 EX goes straight to the middle of the range even when at first start-up.... Does this sound like a gauge cluster problem or something else?

Not a problem at all, its the way the gauge is designed to work, I believe from 50 degrees to 230 the gauge stays in the middle, At 230 it goes to yellow and 250 goes to red. I might be off a little on those temps but I am pretty close. If you want to know exactly what the temps are you will need to install a aftermarket temp unit like I did..
Just an idea....Get you a Scanguage II, it reads every sensor that the CPU reads and its a code reader as well. Its a great tool for the money $140 ish at local box parts store.
I cant tell by your post what motor your running, on the diesels it provides a wealth of info.

Thanks for the info..... Was planning on installing the f650 dash add-on and was trying to determine what gauges.... So I'll be getting a trams temp for sure... Thx again.

if you have the 6L, get a scangauge2, or other obd2 port gauge. They can read tons of sensor and various other values from the computer. No need for 10 individual gauges and new sending units and all the wires, imo.
If you have gas engine, the ultagauge is also a cheaper option.
There are apps for phones and tablets too.. plus, it can move to any other vehicle.
I have the 7.3... Got it two months ago and working through a few "fix it ups"... The temp gauge being one..... I put upper and lower ball joints in the first weekend after I got it.... Replaced hot side turbo tube.... Ais intake.... Now gauges.,,, then dptuner..., and the list goes on... Love this forum... Full of info. Thx again..,,
