I can see no use for this sheet metal angle that comes up from the floor under the seat on my 55/56. (Floor is 55) Looking at other pics on the site some trucks don't have it. I am talking about the sheet metal piece behind the channel locks in the pic. It's all rusted and I'm thinking about leaving it off after I replace the rear floor. I can't see any use for it except maybe to keep junk stored behind the seat from rolling forward on the floor? Thanks, Greg

It does do that. The 53-56 trucks did not have a hole to put a thumb screw in to hold the jack in place like the 48-52 trucks, even the the jacks still had a hole in the base. So the jack and tools were stored between the back wall and that piece of sheet metal. And when you hit a bump they do make some noise.
There is also a floor brace installed in the channel. It supports the floor and also the rocker panel. The seat bolts go thru the brace.
Now that i re-read your post again i see you meant the vertical piece behind where the seat would sit. I agree that it was most likely meant as a retainer to keep stuff you put behind the seat from sliding forward.
