Hey Leroy, I've got a bad pump that I bought from an auto parts store that I thought was reputable, but quickly realized wasn't. This one was causing a surge/shake/miss then it would die, but I was getting air past the pump shaft seals; upon removal the shaft stayed with the drive gear. Idk if not having a shaft in it now would affect the movement of the parts in the top cover, but I just want to give you a heads up about it just in case. Other than removal and installation, I don't know much about the insides of these pumps lol.
Here is a pic of the top, and a vid of me moving the linkage. I hope this helps out some:
Here is a second pic at a different angle. I can't upload the video for some reason, it won't let me. There is quite a bit of movement in my linkage from side to side, probably a centimetre or a bit less from the housing wall on the pass. side in that corner out towards the governor spring
Thank you so much '73 for the pics .. Yep mine definatly has too much play in it .
The gov. arm doesn't sit at rest against the spring, so one of those parts must be worn or the shaft broken ..
I really have been wanting to leave my pump alone, because the truck runs so good, plenty of power and fantastic fuel economy, it's been there some probably 20 years turning my engine reliably for long enough, I'm thinking, maybe it's time I sent her for some well deserved treatment with the professionals at R&D IDI Performance.
Those of you who know me from here, know that i'm kindof particular, and demand nothing but the best, and so I know where she'll be headed for some well deserved attention, kindof a good bit of money that I could do without spending, but another decade of reliable service out of my pump once rebuilt is good peace of mind.
As I place my order, I'm gonna send my pump, and request that this same pump body be used for my rebuild, as i'm kindof a sentimental guy, and she belongs here running my truck .
I'll keep yall posted as I get my pump fancied up and reinstalled, Thanks
