I'm late to this rodeo but I think most people swap out the old externally regulated alternators for a more modern internally regulated 3G alternator that was used on many Fords during the '90s. They are available in small and large housings that bolt directly in place of the old alternator. There is a 95 amp unit and a 130 amp unit.

The 70 amp alternator used in these trucks is the same as an LTD or Thunderbird.
