What is everyone using to secure a pistol in their trucks (For those that do)? A consolevault takes up the entire center console. I was looking at maybe this. SV500 Quick Access Gun Safe - GunVault | GunVault. A search only turned one old result in the expedition forum, and it was more of a “this is cool” post.
Open carry -- except in some states (FL, IL, CA) for example. FN 5-7 for "around town", Springfield Nat'l Match "out in the country" -- most excellent groupings, punch thru, foot lbs "downstream".
ALWAYS, REPEAT ALWAYS inform law enforcement (if pulled over) you have a concealed carry permit or are "open carry"
I use this mostly for traveling thru states that don’t recognize my ccw permit. Goes under the back seat in the storage part. Any other time if not able to be on my hip i just leave it in the console.
I use the Gun Vault MV500 to carry mine. Some places require your firearm to be stored in a locked container stored separately from the ammo/magazine, so I store the mags in the overhead console and the pistol locked in the GV in the center console. Pay attention to state laws and be damn sure to know if the interstate or state highways travel through a reservation, they can and do have different laws regarding firearms transport.

Don't want to derail this thread but......not recommended on a concealed carry. Open carry absolutely. Never volunteer any unnecessary information. The exception would be if the firearm would come into play lets say if it was in the glove box and you needed to go in there to get to something etc. The other exception would be if the LEO asks if you have any weapons in the vehicle. Always be truthful.

I would check the state you live in or are permitted to carry. Here in Wisconsin if you get pulled over and you are C/Cing(legally of course), you must tell the LEO and show him your permit when they come to your vehicle. Not disclosing that information and get caught, you could possibly have your permit permently revoked. If your legal, why hide it?
I'm using the console vault, yes it does take up most of the console, but you don't really lose any storage capacity.
There is still a couple of inches on top even with the vault.
I completely agree. I love my console vault. Same space essentially as without it and I keep my wallet and truck papers, phone charger/sync cords and of course my Wilson Combat 5 inch Supergrade 911 ACP in a protective gunsock to be there when I don't carry(to the hospital and office mostly). When carrying and longer trip I will also put my Wilson Combat 4 inch Stealth 911 ACP in it as well. I leave three code numbers the same and vary which one of the four dials is "active". That allows very quick access to gun, wallet etc. I like the security of a locked vault for the gun if the truck is broken into and when traveling through states like Illinois where CCP from Iowa not recognized. It is one of my favorite options in the truck.

I'm using this as well. It works great and the only thing you lose is the console tray. There is enough space between the vault and the console lid to keep a pair of gloves or whatever...
If you go this route, I highly recommend the built in combo lock option.
Quite a few examples online of situations where law abiding, concealed carrying citizens are drawn upon or mistreated by LEO. If you do not live in a duty to inform state, no reason to introduce unnecessary tension. You’re only hiding it if you lie to the officer when they ask if there’s a weapon in the vehicle.
To the OP, how long are you leaving a pistol in your vehicle? A cable lock around a seat post would work and be much simpler/cheaper.

Agreed. Only if asked will I volunteer my CCP info. Not trying to hide anything, just don't want to add any potential drama.
