Rapid Supplemental Heat

I had a 2011 several years ago with Rapid Supplemental Heat. I sold it in 2013 but from what I can recall, the heat was pretty good from the start.

My 2015 I bought new did not have it. I missed it terribly and made absolutely sure my next Super Duty would have that option.

My 2017 does indeed have Rapid Supplemental Heat. But it ain't that great in my opinion. As I said, its been four years since I had it so I really can't compare it to what I can accurately recall. Its surely better than my 2015 was because that thing was like driving in an icebox for 15 minutes or so.

What's everyone's opinion on this option? Does your heat do really well from the beginning? Mine just isn't that good until the truck really starts getting warmed up and on a really cold day, that can take at least 15 minutes or so of driving.

I would agree that the 2011 model year heat was great and my 2017 takes time. Definitely not the same set up.

If I leave the temperature control on Auto the auxiliary heat doesn't seem to do much. But if I spin that sucker past 85 to 'HI', it seems to start blowing warm air sooner and warm the cabin up a bit faster.

Me too. I will turn it all the way up but it just doesn't have that warmth like my older truck seemed to have.

Maybe I'm just getting old.

I won't be super hot right away. It's a supplemental heater, meant to "take the edge off" of the cold and get your windshield a little warm air right away. Also, don't turn the FAN on high -- moving warmer air, if even just a handful of degrees -- FAST will actually cool it down.

Do you think this would be a deal-breaker to not have this option? Looking at a couple used Platinum's down south that have every option but this.

Between remote start, heated steering wheel, and seats will I survive lol.

Following, about to order and perhaps this is an unnecessary option being in SC.

I wouldn't call it unnecessary. You might not need it a lot but for those cold mornings...and you do get them even in South Carolina, it can make a difference. And after all, it's only $250 and would you want $250 worth of regret for those occasional cold mornings when you could be kicking out some heat? I got the supp heat, and have heated seats, rear seats, and wheel. The supp heat is passive, so it comes on as it's needed. I've not had to use the seat or wheel heat but the supp heat does make the cabin a bit more comfortable right away.

Thanks! That was my thought process too. I’ll keep it on the build sheet.

I have it on my 17' but with remote start I doubt you need it. I can tell you if I had to go out and start the truck in the morning, it would definitely be more enticing of an option.

+1, it works better if you switch the air intake control to recirculate, this way your not drawing in colder outside air, draw it in from the interior.

Ill keep searching for one with this option.

I wish more of these features could be added after the fact.

Maybe it seemed your old truck heated better, but the actual numbers indicate differently. The 2011-2016 supplemental heater was 1500W or 125A. The 2017+ supplemental heater is 1800W or 150A.
