6.2 is a 2011+ truck, not exactly cheap

Yep. But I'm driving a 27 year old truck now and that 2011 could last me 20 years or more, probably outlast me. They aren't cheap and as the prices go down my interest will go up.

An OBDII controlled 460 in a truck with modern safety equipment would be interesting to see but building one is not in my future.

I'm digging a F250 CCSB!! But they're hard to find compared to the 350 CCLB. There are two really nice ones in Sacramento and one on eBay that is local here in PDX. What do you guys think of these two: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/ctd...445351954.html
https://fresno.craigslist.org/ctd/d/...442858641.html

and this on ebay looks killer too. I suspect it will go for $17-19k??
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1997-Ford-F...%257Ciid%253A1

but I don't know if I can pay these prices for a truck that is 20 years old just because they're rarer than 350 CCLBs. I found a bunch of nice 350 CCLB diesels for $10-14k. If I were to go with a 460, which I'm now seriously considering due to the recommendations here, ther is a really nice with low miles locally for $10k.

One or both of the first two are spam. They are the same exact truck. The third doesn't look too bad, but you may be right on the price.

They're not the same truck. One is a 96 with 211k, the other is a 97 with 120k. The 96 has a black bed liner and the 97 doesn't. I spoke with the seller- I'm not sure if he's a real dealer or a guy that flips trucks but they're real. There is a guy in PDX that buys low mileage older trucks and flips them on eBay. I don't know how he finds trucks with such low mileage. He goes all over the country to buy and ship it back to PDX. Then preps them (wash and wax only??) and sells them for a tidy profit. He told me there are guys in the Northeast that pay big bucks (as much as $25-27k) for these older rigs because most of the NE rigs are rusted out.

People in the Northeast (like myself) often do end up paying more for these trucks. But the prices of the old 7.3's seem to be getting out of control, this is one of the reasons I own a 460 instead of a 7.3

What's the going price on 460s in the NE? Also, did Ford ever make a 250 CCSB 4x4 in a 460? I don't recall if I ever saw one of those during my search.

I THINK all the F250 CCSB were 96-97 (maybe 95?) and 7.3 diesel or 460 only, either 4x4 or 2wd.

Yes they did. I haven't seen many CCSB 460's but they're out there. CCSB & SCSB were 460 or 7.3L only, to the best of my knowledge.

In 2012 I bought my '97 F-250 CCSB with a 460 and E4OD for $4000 in Indiana. It had 161K on it. Don't know what that means for now. For a northern truck it didn't have much rust, but it was starting to come through over both rear tires. Here's a pic from when I bought it.

Apparently I gave my 97 CCSB away compared to those trucks.

460 was the standard engine in a CCSB and the diesel was the option

And only made 96 and 97

Well, it wasn't mine, I wasn't buying the gas and was moving big 5th wheel campers from Mississippi to Florida after Katrina. I was making time. You may drive your own a bit different, lol. I have rented Class C campers with the V10 and got 11. I thought power and fuel consumption wasn't much different that the same rig with a 460.
But the difference in a 7.3 is you can flog one harder with a load and the mileage does't go off the cliff. Just my 2 cents. I think the V10 is a good engine and now a great bargain because nobody wants them.

As much as I like the 97 and older body style, the price is getting nuts on them for 20 year old trucks. You can move up to a 99 or newer 7.3 for a lot less money and all you loose is wing windows.
$23,000 for one is insane. A friend of mine just sold his one owner 02 6 speed with 55,000 miles for that. He owned it since new and it spent very few nights outside, just like a new truck.

Well if you plan to stay 10+ feet away from a 6.0/6.4 I'd highly recommend you do the same for a 5.4, unless you like a engine thats brakes more than 6.0 that is. 7.3 is the only option here, and i know your pain on finding a good CCLB.
