transmission (automatic) developed a bad leak. found a 2" crack in the housing. Anybody experience this problem? going to try JB weld. if it doesn't work, I'm in deep trouble. any ideas for a good fix?
Depends where the crack is and what caused it.. stress on the housing.. foreign material inside.. could be many things. If there was enough pressure to cause the crack in the first place than JB is going to be a temporary band-aid at best.
Won't cost much to try it and see if your luck holds out.
There is no pressure inside that could cause that crack.
This trans needs to come out and be rebuilt. Fixing the crack without fixing what caused the crack is not going to work for more than a day or two.
At the start of 2005, the reverse clutch snap ring design was changed. The new snap ring was a disaster. It popped out of the groove and was caught between the rotating parts and the case. The caused the case to crack and leak a lot of fluid. If you don't rebuild the trans it's going to come completely apart pretty soon.
