86 M/T problem?

Put in the small reinforcing plate today and can now shift even in high idle with no grinding. No flexing at all in the firewall. I was lucky that only the top left corner was loose and was able to just bolt it to the existing clutch cylinder studs. At first it looked like I was going to need the stud extender ( which doesn't appear to be available anymore ) because the studs weren't long enough to get a nut started. Walked away from it and had a beer then tried again. I was able to get a plain nut started on the lower stud ( instead of the shoulder nut ) and it pulled it in far enough to get the top nut on. Then i removed the bottom nut and replaced it with the shoulder nut. I also found that by bending down the sheet metal lip in front of the lower stud i could slide the repair plate on with the clutch cylinder in place. $27.00 well spent.
