My 01 F350 dually has a tick! doesnt seem to be an exhaust leak, though i do have some. You cant hear the exhaust leak in the video becuase the truck is warmed up, which is why im worried about it. If you tap the gas it goes away, its an on and off kinda of problem so its hard for me to track it down. I was at Taco Bell when i recorded this next to the wall so its easier to hear. When i put this motor in (the old one died at 300,000 miles) i replaced the cam chains and tensioners and guides. I also replaced the oil pump with a DNJ pump. All this was done about 1200 miles ago. I have to take the front cover back off because its leaking oil so if its a lash adjuster i wanna change it then. But i cant seem to pin it down to that. My f250 LD with a 5.4 does the exact same thing and same sound but it doesnt have a exhaust leak. Any help is greatly appreciated. Heres the link:
Couple of things, was that a rebuilt engine that was installed or a re-manufactured or used?
When you did the timing chains, did you make 100% sure that your tensioners were installed on the correct side, driver being left? I mixed them up one time and it makes the same sound but goes away once oil pressure comes up with rpm.
Lastly, it could be a loose valve guide. That coming from what sounds like the driver rear, that cylinder is the dead head point for coolant so that one will typically be the hottest and the exhaust valve guides can wear out faster on that cylinder.
