Looking at a 2011 F250

Hello first post, I'm currently looking at a 2011 f250 6.7 powerstroke with 146k on it. I know about the early build dates having valve problems which this truck did have. It's dropped cylinder 6 intake valve at 130k. Now this is the kicker.

The truck is now supposed to have a 2014 6.7 with 50k on it. But there are no records of it happening. I guess the previous owner denied having the work done at the dealership because it was too expensive and out of warranty. So the only thing that I can go off of is the guys around the dealership that know the truck and take their word for it. THEY WILL NOT GIVE ME ANYMORE IFNO OTHER THAN THAT. My guess is a in house tech did the work at his house for half what the dealership wanted.

Today I went to the dealership and they let me check it out up on the hoist. I noticed immediately that there are witness marks on the trans bolts, and cab mount bolts. The mechanic also pointed out that the blue silicon between the bell housing and the block was blue and that wasn't used in 2011. Also the oil pan wasn't plastic(2011). It had a metal oil pan. The EGR cooler had red paint pen writing on it which I was told wasn't factory. But I'm sure that it's been replaced.

Other than that it runs awesome and it's a super clean truck. OIL always changed at regular intervals. So my only question is if there is anyway at all I can tell this is a 2014 6.7 and not just a scabbed back together 2011 block after the dropped valve. Really any and all advice or information is greatly appreciated.

My opinion..... unless you know the previous owner there is no way of knowing for sure what has been done to that truck. Unless you're just getting a crazy good deal on it that's a big gamble to take, one that could be costly $$$$$.
If you have an extra $10-15k laying around in case the motor pukes out then it might be a gamble worth taking. If you're not prepared for that, I'd be looking elsewhere

copy down the engine serial numbers.... have a Ford dealer do a search on it..

serial numbers are linked to year and model...

otherwise... no paperwork.. = it did not happen...

I second that. Unless the price point warrants taking a risk I wouldn't bother. There are lots of F250's out there that are untouched and they are generally the most reliable.

This truck may be a solid truck and a good deal, but it is rare to have a truck that has been taken apart that far be a driver that you don't need to worry about again. Once a wrench monkey has had their hands in it....

The serial number will be on the backside of the block, drivers side, just below the head. You'll probably need a mirror to see it.

If you can verify that the engine is indeed from a 2014 truck, I wouldn't be real afraid of it. If it indeed is, most likely it would have a lot less miles than the truck since it would have been only about 3 years old when installed. No guarantee, I know, but nothing I would run screaming from either.
