Hey guys, I am new to posting on this forum (but have been creeping on this site for the better part of a year). I have been searching for hours and cant seem to find an answer..
Is there a difference in the 2wd and 4wd front hub adapter on a dually?
Long story short; I got some 05+ wheels for a good price and I was going to convert to 8x200 so I can run these wheels. BUT I want to do it the right way and swap the adapters, and I can only find 2wd trucks being parted out!
Yes, they are the same. How are you going to make the rear match? swap later axles into your existing rear?
Thanks! Regarding the rear... I am either going to do steel spacer/adapters, or re-drill the hubs to 8x200 (I am a machinist during the day). The hub idea makes me a little nervous. I don't know if I will be compromising the integrity of the hub.. OR, I'm wondering if I can buy 05+ hubs and swap completely??
bump in case anyone can help us. the OP (@Campsta) as well as myself are both wanting to convert our dually's to 8x200 to run 05-07 wheels (i want 17's so i can get a larger tire selection for 37x12.50, but don't want aftermarket wheels, i prefer the stock wheel look) but like the OP, i have only been able to find info/figure out how to convert the front using factory parts. just swap the factory front dually "adapter/spacer" to an 05-07 and then the fronts will be 8x200. the rear is what we have not been able to figure out, even months later after this thread was started lol. i started a few threads i think and never got an answer. i can't believe no one in the history of the internet has done this lol!!!
anyway. here's my thinking. it's probably wrong but i'll say it anyway lol.
as far as i know, the front axle is the same in my 04 f350 4x4 as an 05 f350 4x4? maybe the axle is different but the hub on the 05 dually is still 8x170 BEHIND the front wheel adapter. after it, it's 8x200 on 05-07 (not sure about 08+ duallys).
if they only changed the adapter for the front, with the axle/hub itself being 8x170 with no dually adapter installed, did they do something similar on the rear so they didn't have to completely redesign the entire axle/hub? are the wheel studs on the rear of my 04 dually part of the brake rotor? if so, would a rotor from an 05 fit, thus giving me 8x200 in the rear? i doubt it's that easy, but these are things i don't have the answer to and hoping someone here can help me and @Campsta figure out.
