Where is the coil resistor on a 91 Bronco? I am getting full voltage to the coil if i replace the resistor that should take care of it? I see one next to the coil, but I was told that for for radio noise. thanks in advance
I don't exactly know where it is either, but I believe it's taped up in the harness under the dash. The other thing you are looking at, if it's round and silver is a capacitor, and yes it's for noise. If you want to, you can get a resistor and mount it on the firewall. Some older cars like chryslers used them, and they are a large white ceramic looking thing. Mount it where it will not hurt anything because they do get warm. The Ford manual calls for the value to be 1.05 to 1.15 ohms resistance.
NJBronco, I believe your 91 had the "E-type" coil, that didn't require an external balllast.
If you are using an aftermarket coil, you may need to install an external resistor. Some coils have an internal ballast, some don't. If you're not sure, take an ohmmeter and check across the primary windings (small + and - terminals). Anything below about 1.2 ohms needs an external ballast.
