I have size 13's and they work for me. I agree that they are a little small for large feet, but mine have plenty of purchase. And yes, they are positioned in a way that getting in is easier than getting out.
When I was shopping for new steps, I was leaning toward the N-fabs, but I decided to go with these instead. The company is called Havoc, and they are out of Florida.
I was a little apprehensive at first because it’s a fairly new company, but the little reviews I read were pretty positive and I decided to take a chance. They look almost identical to the N-fabs except that these steps are made out of stainless steel with a flat black powdercoat texture. The other difference is the step has a deep foot pad with raised slots to keep your foot from sliding.
I bought these during the week of black Friday and so far, I’ve been very happy with them. They bolt up to the existing bolts of the stock running board.
You do have to retrain yourself on where to place your foot when exiting the vehicle if you’re use to the stock running boards, but after a few days your muscle memory takes over and you don’t have to think about it anymore. They also come with a lifetime warranty, but I don’t remember the details.
I wanted wheel-to-wheel with the bed access step, but you have to keep in mind that CCLB's don't always have as many options available to choose from. For example, the Havoc steps are not available for the LB. Well, you can install the shorter ones but according to their website "...you can install these steps for a 6.5 ft bed but the bed access step will not extend all the way to the rear wheel well."
The N-Fabs look pretty good, but their usefulness sort of depends on what you need them for. My FIL has had them on his work/ranch truck for a couple of years and... let's just say they are not doing well. There's quite a bit of rust through, and since he has the CCLB with bed access ones, they bend pretty bad under weight when you're putting stuff in the bed.
The steps are fine for tennis shoes or whatever, but are mostly too narrow (both length and width) for boots. They also aren't really comfortable with flops for anything but entry/exit. Really just my opinion though. My FIL said he probably wouldn't get them again, he likes the Luverne Grip Steps I put on (also CCLB bed access).
Anyways, lots of guys seem pretty happy with the N-Fabs, so it probably just depends on what you use them for. If you are going to use them to work out of the truck a lot, or spend a lot of time on them reaching in the bed or cab (like buckling children or whatnot), I'd probably consider something else. Otherwise, they do look great and would probably be fine.
I have N-Fab steps on my 2015 Tacoma, since new. They are O.K. I did not feel that they would be the best choice for my Super Duty, so I ordered the factory running boards. The placement of the foot loops on my Tacoma is not optimal, the foot pad is only 10.5" long by 3" wide, so foot placement is specific, entry or exit (you do kinda get used to it). Although not in my experience, some users have had paint and rust issues, covered by the N-fab warranty, but the purchaser must return the product to N-fab on their own nickle, for evaluation. I figured my options with the factory running boards were: they will be fine as delivered, they can be raised using F-150 brackets, or find their way to Craigs List, then look for another option.
