4R100 Fluid change

I have a 2004 Navigator that has the 4R100, and I'm contemplating a fluid change in it. At 160,000 miles right now, and don't have a record of any change, but the fluid is bright red and has no abnormal smell.

To my surprise I noticed there is a drain plug in the transmission pan, and there's a plug in the bell-housing. I did not pull the plug to see if there's a drain for the torque converter but I've read that feature disappeared in 2001. Is it normal to still have a plug there even with no drain on the TC?

If the TC can't be drained, I'm thinking of just doing a straight drain and fill of the 7 or so quarts, and just do that annually, or maybe every 30k or so.

Any thoughts on this? Yes I have read the thread on how to do DIY flush but I don't have a 2nd person at the moment and not comfortable doing that myself, so looking at alternatives.

Thanks!

The plug in the bellhousing is to access the converter. You do not have a drain plug in the torque converter.

Thanks,
What are your thoughts on just doing a drain & fill of the ~7qts, on a more frequent interval?

It's a workable solution.

I've done many fluid exchanges using the method I posted elsewhere on this site. Only one time did I have a helper, all the others I did by myself. It's not very hard to do.

Thanks,
Re-reading https://www.ford-trucks.com/articles...-transmission/

I think I'm understanding a little better. I had thought there was a method where you actually draw fresh fluid directly in, rather than using the dipstick fill.

I have a lift, but can't get into it easily when on the lift, but guess this could be done on the ground by lifting one side slightly.

Thanks.

That's how I did it. I didn't have a lift.
