I was playing around building a 2018 F-150, I was disappointed with how the build site works. I plugged in Crew Cab and then it lists bed sizes 5'-6" 6'-6" and 8'-0". I click on 8 foot bed and of course this option is not available with a crew cab. I selected 6'-6" bed. I then go to engine sizes and it lists a handful of engines options. I clicked on one and again it is not available in my above configuration. The point is, if options are not available then they should disappear and not be shown.
What keeps me from getting a light duty truck is I want a crew cab with an 8 foot bed which automatically moves me into the SD trucks.

You maybe right, But I have never seen a F150 SCREW with a 8' bed ? With that if you want one buy a superduty !
No one makes a 1/2 ton truck with a crew cab and an 8' bed. The closest I've seen is the Tundra double cab with an 8' bed. The Tundra has the most back seat room of the non full crew cab trucks. A guy on my road has one, it's every bit as big as a Super Duty.
I am not in the market for a newer truck as I currently have 2003 F150 Supercrew and a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel that is also a supercrew or whatever Dodge calls them. Both trucks have the short bed. Many times I wished I had the extra two feet for hauling stuff under cover, not having to lower the tail gate or rest the stuff on the tailgate.
Your friendly local Ford dealership should be able to help you with that. The GM has a program on his computer that will tell you every truck selection and every option available for each model. What can and can't be ordered. I wouldn't rely on the online Ford F-150 build tool for nothing.
I agree the Ford config tool is not that great and leaves a lot to be desired with how all of the options are interconnected and even offers very little information on the options themselves. Finally when you finish your config, it should provide the weight and towing capacities but it doesn't. Not sure what you do but a supercrew with an 8' long bed will obviously have a very long wheelbase and will be a pain to turn in and just park but maybe you need it for some reason so asking your friendly (fleet) dealer might be a good idea. Just plan on waiting a long time to get it if they could order it because it will likely be an oddball.
Ford does not produce a frame with a wheelbase that will accommodate a crew cab with an 8' bed. I can tell you that my SuperCrew 6.5' bed has a poor turning radius as it is. I cant imagine how bad it would be as a SuperCrew 8' bed. Even the SuperCab 8' (longest WB abailable) has to be a PITA to maneuver.

Well, the only two engines that are not available for the combination you mentioned are the NA 3.3L V6 & the obvious Raptor TTV6. The other three engines and maybe even the upcoming diesel are the only other engines that are available for the F150.
Are you not interested in any of these engines?
Just curious.
Maybe it`s just me but i`ve never had a problem with the configurator on the Ford website when it comes to building a vehicle and it`s very self explanatory to me.
I`d be interested in hearing from others regarding what`s so confusing about it.
My point was that if you select a crew cab then the option to select an 8' bed should be given as it isn't available. If you don't select the Raptor model then the Raptor motor should be an option.
Similar if you fill out a form on the computer and it asks your city and state. You should just have to put in your zip code and the city and state should automatically populate.

You're asking a webpage designer to know ALL the possible combinations of what's available. I don't see that happening. Your second 'concern/complaint' happens on 90% + of webpages......
