Recognize this wire???

Helping a buddy with his truck. Found this loose ground. Anybody know what it is supposed to be grounding?

To me it looks like a disconnected + wire for the AIH, which should be right underneat that wastegate solenoid in the center of the spider.

Looks the right length for the AIH. I would tape it up if your not planning on using it. May cause a fire when powered up and touching stuff it shouldn’t be.

Things are starting to come together for me...it looks like a boost gauge is plumbed in where the AIH used to be.

Yep that’s a common spot for a mechanical gauge. You better get some electrical tape and cover that wire end good then seeing as it’s not needed now.

It's a ground wire. Goes directly to the block.

Are you sure that it goes to ground and checked with a VOM and not getting "lost" in the wire loom? The AIH draws a fair bit of current as would be indicated by the wire size. The AIH is grounded through the AIH element to the spider body.

TRUE.

And being that it is a circuit, the return path needs to be as big as the supply path. And, it is actually a hotly contested subject which direction current "flows". But that is another topic.

FALSE.

The OP's cable in question is the ground wire for the AIH. There is a ceramic insulator that separates the positive and negative cables on the AIH stud.

Both the power and ground connect to the element and are separated by ceramic insulators. Most just leave the ground in the valley because its easy.
I removed it on mine, plenty of stuff in that valley didn't need any extras.

Sorry Y2. I forgot about the insulator on the heating element. Been a while since I have looked at it.

I removed all wiring associated with the AIH, including the ground. I now have a "backup" GPR sitting there.

Yep, definitely AIH wiring.

Here is mine before I removed it, you can see the same ground and the positive wire for the AIH right beside each other.
