Good morning, and TGIF. Wanted some FTE input on when people thought a 6.75 box looked full when loading a half a cord.
I know a cord of cut wood is officially 128sqf and there fore the half is 64, or the 8x4x2 method. That said when buying wood and loading it yourself, many people use a "magical" method to decide when the box looks full. Since I have the 6.75 box I know it's a little trickier than just the simple mound in a 8'.
I have been using just a mound method where I got the box full with min spacing, and then build a tent of about 3 to 5 rows above the box. Again, wanted to see what others thought. Thank you much, and have a great weekend!
We call that a "Rick" down here. Lived in the PNW for 25 years and very familiar with purchasing a "Cord" of wood. I have my firewood delivered to the backyard via dump truck and dumped. I was curious if the 6.75' box would fit a "Rick" or not.
Where I live they call a 4x8 row a rank or 1/2 cord. I recently purchased a row 16 inches long that fit very easily in a short bed not even as high as top of bed. Technically that is 1/3 cord. So a half cord would fit but be above the top of bed.
SnowPlowDriver is about right. It's been a couple of years, but I had a 1/2 cord of wood in my shortbed, and it came roughly a foot or two above the bed. Maybe a foot. I don't remember exactly, but it was no problem fitting all in the bed.

Cut to 16" a single 4'x8' rank is a face cord, 1/3 of a full.
If you go three ranks wide down the floor, a short bed would fit a face cord at about a foot.5 tall, well under bed level. Adding another 1/6 to get to a full half would put you right around bed level. If'n you stack it real nice like But I've never seen bought wood stacked nicely unless it's after the dump leaves it in a pile where it falls and the kids do some "chores".
