Hi,
I'm interested in the Ford Premium Maintenance plan for my 2017 CCLB diesel.
The plan cost options include services at 5k, 7.5k or 10k mileage intervals.
Also, the plan can be either standard oil, or full synthetic for slightly more $$.
My question:
Since I prefer to go with full synthetic, what interval would you select? 5000 mile or 7500 mile.
Typically the condition that will cause concern in the 6.7L diesel is fuel dilution. At some point, it will become a reason to condemn the fluid. Synthetic lubes cannot avoid or delay this condition any more than can a dino lube. Hence, the reason to change the oil is likely to not have anything to do with the base stock of the lube.
Fuel dilution can lead to escalations in wear, but that typically happens only after fuel get at 5% or greater. The fuel dilution will not assure a wear rate; it only can predict the potential for a change in wear rates. IOW - fuel at 5% won't mean your engine is being harmed. It only means you need to look closer for changes in the wear trends.
If you have UOAs, use them to help decide. Otherwise, I'd pick the dino at 7.5k miles.
I've seen a lot of 6.7L UOAs, and not once have I seen anything worthy of a panic at 5k miles for an oil change; syn or dino does not matter.
