orich i had a some what similar problem on a 69 f-100 years ago. i was coiming home from work on the 22 fwy. in Garden Grove. well the traffic slows down i shift from 3rd to 2nd the truck was a tott by the way. anyway the traffic starts to pick up speed i try to shift to 3rd. no can do. the spring clip that held the linkage to the trans had thought it would be better if it was a two piece clip instead of a one piece. lucky i was in the slow lane. i pull over to the side and there,s the linkage just hanging there. i had two small zip ties in the glove box. so there i am laying on the side of the freeway traffic is going by at a pretty good clip. thankfully the zip-ties where the right size i put two of them in and drove the rest of the way home. i still carry some zip-ties to this day ,because you never know.

I've worked around a broken throttle linkage clip by using a piece of bailing wire that I found along side the highway... my wife told me "I thought that was just a cliche!"
There's a bag or two of extra spring clips in the glove box now... and I think there's some extras on the dash too... and spare bailing wire under the hood... "Be Prepared" isn't just the Scout Motto, it's also prudent
