rear door hatch question

my 2005 rear door hatch is hard to open. you have to lift handle and forcefully pull up on it to get it to open. My wife and kids cant open it most of the time. Have any off you experienced this and have a fix for it?

Mine too. I just ordered lift supports for about $12/each. There's a video on YouTube from 1aauto on replacing them. No tools needed

its the initial opening that is tough. the supports lift it with no problem. its like the latches are sticky and hard to get them to release when you pull up on the handle

Yall need to start weight training.

New lift shocks will help it stay up. And if you buy the 2x4 style they give you a tiny bit more head clearance. But they aren't going to help with getting it open and moving up. You got to be able to get it past the hump then the struts will kick in and give you some assistance.

Have you tried putting on a step bumper in your hitch to help your wife and kid with leverage?

just looked at the weathertech step. I thought it was normal until i opened my uncles excursion rear door for christmas. His opened with one finger. Think i am just going to remove the latches and clean and oil them up real good to see if that works

I have the same situation. My lift gate tends to stick pretty tight and hard. This cold weather is not making it any easier. Sometimes, I am scared to tug that hard on that handle to get the door to un-stick The new lift supports are helpful after that initial tug.
