I'm in the market for an intake for my 01 X and I'm really confused. The big three I've heard about are as follows:
1. Tymar
2. AFE
3. Airaid
I have a few questions that pertain to them all:
First, Which of these three are better and for what reason(s)?
Second, When it comes to increasing fuel mileage, HP and Torque, which will serve me better or best?
Third, What are the maintenance costs? Ex. Filter Replacement
Fourth, How much will cost?
Lastly and most importanly, Will it raise or lower my EGTs?
Anybody with answers to these questions are greatly appreciated. Even if you don't have a definite answer, its always good to venture a guess. Thank you all in advance.

I have been using the AFE magnum force system for the last 9 months and I am very pleased with it thus far. However from what I have been reading on this site for some time now the Tymar seems to have the vote due to filtering out particals better. However I cleaned mine for the first time last week and everything inside was as clean as could be. So for now I'll be sticking with the AFE. I picked mine up on e-bay for about $100 new. I think they retail for about double that. The filter is cleanable and never needs to be replaced. Easy job, takes about 20 min. It lowered my egt's, increased both milage and preformance.
rvfiver and johnsdiesel, your comments on this subject are greatly appreciated. I do, however, have two questions for you both: What kind mileage are the both of you getting around town, on the freeway, and towing? and Do you calculate your gas mileage manually or do you believe what the trip computer is telling you? Anyone else with more input on this issue is more than welcomed to post. Again, thanks in advance.
I am a full time RV'er and tow a 13,000 lb 5th wheel all around the country. Before the mods I was getting 8-9 towing and 13-14 not towing. Now when towing I get as low as 9 mpg in the mountains, but on a long trip in various tarrain I average 11-12 mpg. Not towing I have had as high as 18+ but it avarages out to be 16-17 mpg. The overhead is about 1+ mpg off, so I calculate it with the hand held calculator.
You can do a search if you want to find info on the + and - of each.
Not towing quite the weight as rvfiver, have a 3000 lbs dry weight slide in that sits very high, creates quite a wind brake and tow a boat. Mileage is around 11 towing through hilly terrain and 18 + unloaded.
