So its been extremely cold here lately and when I start the truck it sounds terrible. Was thinking about adding the block heater. Anyone know what the part number is for the 6.2?
It's not the engine that sounds horrible. So unless that heater gets heat to the power steering pump and accessories.....
A warm engine does radiate heat profusely and can "warm" other components under the hood somewhat.
My VW with the famous FrostHeater coolant heater heats the entire cooling system (not just the block like a lame block heater) very hot to around 180*F, and components around the engine compartment are warm to the touch, melting snow off the hood of my car.

I wouldn't count on that in these trucks. The block heater on mine can warm the engine oil up to 30F on a zero-degree night after being plugged in all night. I don't think the block is going to be radiating much heat from that small heater.
By the way, I'm still leaving my block heater plugged in and remote starting. We've been in the cold snap and have seen temps as low as -25F where I live. I've had no trouble, and based upon oil temps, the block heater it still working every night...
