Block Heaters
Getting ready for old man winter(sorry for cussing).
I have an 11, 250, 6.2, 4WD with the plow package. I don't think the factory block heater has enough wattage. It barely gets the immediate area warm where its screwed into the block even if left plugged in all night (ambient temps between -20 & 30*F). Not sure what its rated at, maybe 450??? I dont ever hear it crackling either. I've verified its got 120vac and the elements not open as it does produce heat but not enough IMO. Truck has less than 50K on the clock. I have not pulled it out of the block yet to inspect, yet.
The 08 I traded had a factory heater as well. It got things nice and warm and you could here it crackling as it cycled... as block heater should. Turn its engine on and you got luke warm heat right away. Not so in the 11. Its acts like there's no heater at all...e.g. normal non-block heater assisted warm-ups. I have in depth knowledge of block heaters being involved with emergency stand by generators. So I realize these smaller water jacket units aren't like thermosiphon tank style 2000 watt Kim Hotstarts found on gen-sets that maintain 120-140*F. I just think there needs to be a bit more heat.
Qs;
1.Does anyone else with an 11 experience this?
2.Does the Power Stroke by chance have an HD heater screwed into the same
location I may up grade to?
3. Does the Power Stroke heater get relatively warm like a block heater should?
