Out with E4OD
Back in 2008 I installed an FSO-6406A Eaton-Fuller 6 speed OD into my 2001 Dodge 3500 and also fab'd a transfer case adapter to marry the Fuller trans with the transfer case. Transmission has had 00000000 issues since installed.
Now for my next project. I have a 1994 Ford 450, 7.5 460 engine and a dead E4OD transmission. It also has a butchered frame behind the rear axle. It's also not the correct frame for a flat bed. Game plan is to section the frame and install a good frame section made for a flat bed. Next I would like a 13 or14" clutch and install an FSO-8406A transmission that was bought on EB for $149.00 new and unused.
Mark, I've read many of your posts and you seem to be the "go to" guy when some needs Help or info. I just need info.
From my understanding, the 370, 460, 429 and 514 were installed in Ford Medium Duty trucks along with the smaller 4 and 5 speed Fuller transmissions. I have seen a few pics of the housing that fits the Ford block and has the trans mount for an SAE #2 or SAE #3. The next big issue is finding a flat flywheel that will mount to the 460 crank and take a 13 or 14" clutch.
Most time I haul heavy for short distances so I am not concerned with the weight of the trans/clutch as I am about durabiliyty and service.
Can anyone provide a lead for the flywheel housing and flywheel??
