My 06 F350 is starting to show her age. We use it for hauling a new 13k 5th wheel. Recently upgraded from a 9k travel trailer. Currently has 260k miles on her. It’s been studded, gaskets with heads decked, stc fitting, dummy plugs, injectors, front end, and just about everything else we do to them. Running a Gearhead 13k tow tune. She is rock solid. But I’m concerned. How long will she last will it die in the middle of nowhere. Should I find another 6.0 since I know this platform or go with a newer 6.7 I hear good things about. Not sure what I want to do.
If you want to keep the 6.0, DO NOT go near a Ford dealership and drive a 6.7. Ford did a very good job on the new platform. While our FTE 6.0 forum is full of this and that broke threads, the 6.7 forum is the opposite: what bling should I add and how dang big is the trailer that I pull without even knowing it is back there... Sure, there are a few problems posted, but if you are starting to worry about what "might" happen on a trip, I suggest you upgrade and then just come visit us now and again...
I talk to a lot of 6.7 folks at camp or even fueling up and haven't had one that wasn't just gushing with praise for their truck...
I bought a 6.7 but I couldn't let my 6.0 go. I don't plan on ever getting rid of it. The 6.7's are becoming too good of a deal to turn down though. I got this lariat ultimate, lifted, deleted, tuned, lineX, wheels, 142k miles, 26k.

Good luck with this tough decision,
Scott
Well I have my hat off for you my friend. That pretty much hammers it dead on the nail. Why did you stop before kicking him in the ***** ??
You been that busy ? Honestly you said it better then I could of Mr. Dan.
If you wind up behind the wheel of a 2016-2017 its not likely the smile on your face could be removed by a strike from a shovel. The salesman could tell you that its only $3,762.17 a month and all youd be seeing is that truck looking good.
Its always after crawling out of bed the next day when the reality of what a crazy bunch of thinking I did night before. lol
If the money isn't any concern go pick one up, they are very nice trucks and finally have a frame under them that properly supports the business they are made for.
I had to add a bunch of bracing to my truck so it wasn't slogging around from hanging 130lbs of tires and wheels on the axles.
Neighbor bought a 2017 dually and its solid on the road as if it was on rails. They don't have a bendy feel in the chassis like the C channel trucks have.
The 2006 trucks are aging and not easy to find one under 100K these days.
Mine is a bit of a unicorn with 61,000 miles on it. But its spent more of my money then my wife.
Me I honestly like the 2005-2007 F250 better than any year they ever made. That said these trucks are becoming out dated and just cannot compare the new model F250.
Plus HP - HP the 6.7 grunts it out without wheezing where the 6.0 is making high EGT's and is one bad moment away from spitting up its milk.
Good Luck with your decision. BTW I will sell you mine for I don't know $10,000 less. lol

I first thought you said you’d sell me yours for $10k! I was ready to go to the bank. Lol. Mine keeps on kicking... probably will start looking soon.
lol the new trucks are jaw dropping and I mean that. The interiors are in a completely different class. Then you have a proven Ford designed and built power plant that does NOT dominate the atmosphere in the cab. Then driving down the road the truck displays solid manners similar to a lighter model because the suspensions doing all the work.
Fords had lots of trials and tribulations as we all know over the last few EPA models of the F250 and they put their money where their mouth is this time..
For a change LMAO
I agree with mhatlen, the '05-'07 SD was a grand slam. One reason I don't want to upgrade to an '08-'16 is that I like my interior design way more than the newer models. I like the dashboard more, the long simulated wood instrument panel, the newer ones are too compartmentalized. The seats with articulating armrests, the smaller center consul and the correctly sized rear headrests all make the older trucks way more comfortable. The newer trucks are clausetaphobic by comparison with the huge headrests. The door pockets are way more user friendly, you can freely move your hand between the seat and the door, you can't on the newer ones. Ever drop you phone between the seat and the consul in a newer truck, you're not getting it back unless you exit the truck.
My daughter has an '08 KR and the leather is super nice, the son in law's '12 KR leather feels like it was sprayed on. I havn't sat in a '17 or '18 yet, but I will soon. For now I'll settle for no DEF, no DPF, no Regen and no PAYMENTS.
Onecylinder makes good points which I also agree with every single one lol.
Me honestly I plan on dying with this truck still mine, my 1973 Chevy 4x4 I had for 24 years so its nothing out of the norm for me.
There was a massive upgrade with the F250 for 2017. So if a guy pulls with his truck the 6.7 is the top of the food chain. My truck is making 425 HP when I kick it hard.
the 6.7 will make 425 HP without being kicked so the EGT's are lower and its designed for long pulls. On the other hand the 6.0 is not designed for the long pulls. The valve trane is too small to endure any long term high heat. The exhaust valves look more like they come out of a Toyota Corolla then a full sized trucks engine.
But the reality of the matter is the heads and valves were NEVER intended to make anything close to the 325HP rated output that Ford demanded. So the small valve stems have a hard time shedding the heat.
Where the 6.7 has no EGT worries that the 6.0 is plagued with.
Regarding the DPF and DEF consumables Ford has again done their job with the designed systems dealing with the emissions. The DPF and EGR systems go 300-400,000 miles most of the time without needing repair or replacement.
I guess what I am saying is the 2017 F250 is worth owning and would out work our 6.0 trucks I'm afraid in every task. But I am still keeping mine.
I am in the camp of staying clear of the dealership. I bought some 2014 leather seats to put in my 2006 and they are much nicer than the old seats but that is the closest I have gotten to a new one.

We put seats out of. 2012 several years ago. Best. Creature comfort add on we have done

I'm not sure if mhatlen hates me, somewhat agrees with, or thinks I'm nuts on this topic you have brought up.
Can you afford it? (buying a 6.7)
If not, stick with what you have -- at least you can work on a 6.0...
I think there are other years of 6.7s that would work for you, I have only been in earlier ones (pre '17), and I find them to be quite nice - my one friend has the rear heated seats ('14), that is nice when we leave from a dinner and it is damn cold out...
If I could pick, I'd go pre aluminum and buy a 2015 or 16... I haven't studied the frames on the newer ones...
But that's me and mhatlen is about to eat me for lunch for even suggesting this on a 6.0 forum...
Can I afford it? Yes BUT it’s a weekend truck at best and we pull the RV and work around the house with it. I drive about 32k miles for work a year and drive a mustang ecoboost. (Fun little car btw). The truck is just for pleasure and towing.
One thing I am noticing is I’ve had my 6.0 for 8 yrs. bought a fleet truck with 180k miles on it for $5k! Since then the prices have really gone back up on the 6.0 almost to the same level is some of the used early 6.7 models. Guess people figured out they really weren’t junk. I may avoid the dealership for awhile...but they sure are pretty lol
Well I paid 42 grand for our factory ordered '07 in '06 -- didn't want to wait to see what evil was coming in the new emissioned 6.4s (sooooo glad we did that).
But, I almost could see skipping the diesel next time, we live in CA and they hate us here (just put a $.20 tax on our fuel), and if I could get myself to sell the camper, I'd go with a short bed extended cab 6.2 gasser F250 4x4. Hell I had a single cab F250 all manual 460 4x4 I let go - crap I loved that truck...
At least it would be a Ford...
Maybe it is time to sell the 6.0 - I keep finding myself in this twighlight zone of: need to drive it/work it; yet it sits. But dang when I do go for a drive... Love at First Sound...
If I had the funds for a new one, I would still be looking for a clean lower mile 06 or 07 KR.
I've driven the newer 6.7
No it's not short on power or creature comforts, but after driving my 2013 6.2 F250 work truck this long(with it's extremely annoying 6 speed tranny and delay issues), I know enough about the interior that I would rather opt for something a bit older I can wrench on myself for the most part.
