I have a 1970 F-250 4x4 no p/s no p/b and i want to see how much a complete a/c is gona cost if its in my range i will get one the only problem is where to find one............?
I have a 1971 F-250 4x4 390 that, I put AC in it myself back in 1979 at no cost back then. 2yrs. later, I moved and did not need it any longer so when it was time to put on a water pump, I pulled all that crap off and later the dash unit came out. and Trash can it all back then...Okay now I'm just back putting AC in it again 20 yrs later i've been going too the loco what they call pick & pull which is take your tools and u pull the parts off junk yard. For many weeks in a row looking for that 1/2 dash ac unit thats fits and clears the floor stickshifter. AAAAh, I found one that is in tack and know one broke it yet, for the whole complete setup was $90.00 the condenser was trash so when trying to remove it
and, I didn't want the drier Because should put in a new one.
So now, I have the dash unit thats the hard part to find plus all ac rubber lines the ac compressor with engine mount and all hard ware needed to start the reinstall of the ac again. Now i've been back at the pick & pull looking for the right condenser that took
one day at 2 yards and then aaaaaha a cherry one on a Chev. min van thats an add on air one.$30.00 for it. Plus a stop at the loco pep boy's auto parts store for a long needed fin strightening tool ouch !!$15.01..Ok now got it all mounted in place with out removing the Radi. well that where is at today. Now I'm taking the weekend off because it's been in the high to mid 90's here in San Jose ca. Oh now all, I have to do is buy a drier theres one online for $25.00 but have to pay S/H So thats about 8 bucks. The R-12 Freon I've only got about 17 lbs.EAT YOUR HEARTS OUT
of that goooood stuff enough until, I die Plus i have all the Ga.
and a evac-pump to do the hole job myself..
$90.00+30.00+15.00+35.00=$170.00
SO FOR UNDER 2-BILLS You could maybe do same if you lived in the big city and wanted to put some time in to it running around
junk yard to junk yard.. Ps I've would really need AC when on vacation in the summer time.. Hope this has help you in some way
ORICH----------PS, I just came back form alittle vacation 3weeks ago. BOY, I SURE WISHED THAT IT HAD AC IN THE TRUCK THE!!
I got the under dash unit the compressor and brackets, hoses and condensor for $100 at a junk yard and they took it off. And they threw in the power steering pump and bracket for my 68 240. The under dash unit is one of those slim fridgidaire ones that is made to fir the contour of the 67-72 dash. I also have another one that I got at a swapmeet for $40. It also fits the contour and was made in Ft. Worth but I don't remember the name.
I have installed the complete Hurricane setup from Old Air products in Fort Worth Texas and have pics of it in my gallery. The actual unit replaces the heater defroster unit for a 3 in one combo and is smaller than the stocker. Now I guess they have more options for the vents since i bought mine. So they have vents that fit the contour of the dash now but not as bulky as the older units you usually see on these trucks. Also this kit replaces the piston York compressor for a rotary Saden. If your looking for an economical A/C your gonna need to do what the members above did,I just opted to try this setup because it has a higher cooling capacity with an 80 pass coil over the original 32 to cool all the hot air in my crewcab in the heat of Nevada. You just have to do what meets your needs.
