We pulled the pan on our donor tranny and everything looked fine. So we completed the swap this past weekend and the used tranny works great. I'm hopeful this will get him by a year or two.

 

Well that didn't take long. The used tranny has already failed. After discussing with the PO, the trans we put in has about 200k on it. Despite the fluid looking good and pan/magnet very clean, it didn't take long for it to fail. We removed the Edge tuner at the same time and replaced with a PHP when we swapped. I don't know if the tuner was enough to push the donor tranny over the edge or what.


Sooo, now we are not going to screw around. I've been looking at the HD4R100 and just the "Napa" rebuilt units. It looks to me the HD4R100 has substantial upgrades over the regular rebuilt units, so we'll probably go that route.


Does anyone know the stall speed of the TC in the HD4R100? I see you can also get a HD TC for the HD4R100, but I'm interested in the TC that comes with the unit, not the up-buy. Thank you.

 

Rebuild advise: Do it right with good parts the first time so it lasts...

 

That is very strange that the trany just up and died that fast
The issue could have been that some of the debris form the first trans was not cleaned out of the cooling system. Did you use a new cooler, or install a magnifine filter return line?
