Pulling hay yesterday i started having tranny problems. Pulling about 14-16k it shook a lot more than normal taking off and tranny temp jumped from 150-210 allmost instantly (norm runs 180-190 towing). whats my best option dont want to spend a pile of money but want it to hold up to towing and some plowing
Do you know what was shaking? It may be the torque converter.
The vibrations may have made the gage go crazy??? Tranny temps usually don't jump up 60F instantly (< 60 seconds) if that's what you mean.
Add a larger trans cooler out front of the radiator.
4:10 gears will help but is expensive. Manual shifting can help a bit too.
if the temps went up that quick its about done, how many of those 228k are on this trans? it could be the converter but if the miles are really high and you have to pull it out anyway you may as well overhaul it
