04 with 174k not studded. Just got an SCT3 tuned it with tow 1 it's an xtra 50hp what I'm wondering is the performance tune is an extra 150hp I've read forums where guys non studded have driven with out studs for years and never had a problem and I've heard the opposite also. I don't have a heavy foot but wondering if any body runs with tunes without studs. Thanks

 

I run the old free spartan tunes on race however I am studded with bpd egr, I personally would not recommend running any tunes without studs. Just my 2 cents man.

 

What will happen, if you use the 150HP tune, is you will need HGs. Unless you baby it, they may last for a while, but they will go when you keep jumping it. What is the point of having a tune if you have to baby it to stop blowing HGs?

To get the full performance out of the tune at minimum you need studs, 4” T-back exhaust no cat and the stock or aftermarket CAI. A stock exhaust with a tune is useless. You need to let the 6.0 breathe for it to be efficient and enjoy the tune.

I have ARP studs, 4” T-back exhaust, no cat, SCT 4 street tune, Atlas 80 FICM tune, Turbine Air Guide (TAG) and Roush CAI. RUNS SCARY GOOD!!!

Who's tune did you use?
The caned stuff is not all that good.
You will get more bang for the buck with tunes from Matt.
The SRL that he has for non studded trucks has quite a bit
of ZIP in it. I ran it on and off for 2.5 years until I wrecked
the truck do so something else not engine related.
That truck was non-studded with stock exhaust and just a
BPD EGR cooler.

 

I have the SCT as well as studs. Ran the truck in the canned performance tune 100% of the time until I noticed puking of the degas bottle. Doing head gaskets now. ............................................ .
