Hey guys, I'm having trouble with my block heater popping my gfi outlet. It looks like the truck side is the issue. I changed cords but it still pops. Has any one else had this issue with moisture and what about different upgrades? I changed my 01 block heater outlet to a Marinco plug with cover but after a few months the cover wouldn't stay closed. I changed it quite often so I'm looking for somethimg more weather tight.
I never use a circuit that is on a GFCI just for this reason, don't want it to shut off in the middle of the night. Find a different power source, it'll be fine.
I had the same problem with my 14 SD. Was not on my new 17. I would think a heater would be standard on a Diesel? Not sure about the downside. Must not be needed.
Make sure the plug on your truck is clean and not covered in a bunch of salt, mud dirt etc. Also take a scotch brite pad and clean up the prongs on the end of the cord as well. Doesn’t take much funk on the end of the cord to trip the GFCI. Also make sure there’s no snow or moisture in the cord end coming from the house as well.

Good advise here.
Also I have found a couple of times in the past that GFI outlets do age with time and will trip more easily especially if they are under regular use or located in harsh conditions.
Twice in the past for me replacing the GFI has solved the overly sensitive tripping issue.
UPDATE: hey guys I had the truck on the lift a few weeks ago when all of this was happening and found the issue. When the plug goes over the bumper it has another connector and that connection was filled with water and corroded badly! I had it replaced under warranty and asked them to put dielectric grease in the connections to prevent this from happening again. Also Ford should have made the plug different so that the smaller plug is on the bottom and the larger is on the top to prevent water from running down the wiring and into the plug it self.
I would recommend checking that plug and adding dielectric grease if you havent already.
Any pics of that connector or is that connecter easy enough to find?
I'm having the same issue with my block heater, took it to the dealer, they tested it, called Ford and they said it's fine, just need to use a more powerful outlet (non-GFI).
Dang I just searched for a thread lift this before starting my own and did not see thing one. My truck just started popping breakers. It’s going in for several other things so guess add this to the list.
My 2017 ford has been in for issues more then my 2008 I had for 9 years!
i had the same problem i used to plugged in two vehicle on the same gfi last winter, bought my ford in the fall and first time i plugged it it popped the gfi i went on the forum did some research and i was convinced to replace it with regular 15 amps WR outlet it worked right away but wasn't feeling safe 100% lol few days ago went to the store and got a new 15 amps gfi and since them it never tripped again i even tested it with my 6.7 plugged in and a heat gun on high !!! i highly doubt that it could be your heater plug thats NFG. Local dealer wanted to charge me $275 to hook up on their machine to tell me if my heater plug was gone lol. thats what happen when u buy out of town.
I checked mine out, looked fine. Pulled it aprt and put together, then it didnt trip the GFI. weird
Wish I had a nickle for everytime cracking apart a connector cleared some weird electrical fault. Corrosion or leakage paths always start causing trouble before it becomes visible. Dielectric or NO-OX or grease will help with this.
I had this same exact problem. I ended up putting in a new gfi. Fixed the problem immediately. That gfi was only 3 years old also. Electrician told me they can go bad more often than you think. Cheap $10 fix.

It should be behind the bumper on the passenger frame rail, behind the valance. It's about at the 6:35 mark in this video. Even though it's a '16 truck, it should be in about the same place.
